Erläuterungen zum Werk

In traditionellen Konfigurationen sind die Bodhisattvas Mañjusrî (mit Ruyi-Zepter) und Samantabhadra (mit heiligem Buch auf Lotosblüte) Begleiter des historischen Buddha Sâkyamuni. Im Umfeld der auf dem Avatamsaka-Sûtra basierenden Huayan-Lehre (kor. Hwaom, jap. Kegon) treten sie auch zusammen mit dem transzendenten Buddha Vairocana auf. Die Handhaltung des zentralen Buddha ist nicht mehr erkennbar, was die eindeutige Identifizierung erschwert.
