Japanische Malerei 1400-1900 29.10.2011-.0..0. 201 Köln, Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst Japanische Malerei, Köln 1956 Explanations for this objectThe sliding doors represent the mature style of the nanga painter and famous haiku poet. When closed, the doors show a continuous landscape from right to left, which the viewer may meander with his eyes following the footpath. Nowhere is there a person or an animal to be seen. The motif of the empty pavilion, points to the influence of Yuan dynasty literati painters as Ni Zan (1301-1374) whose styles became available through Chinese printed painting manuals. Alongside Ike no Taiga (1723-1776), Buson was one of the most successful nanga painters in Kyôto. |
