Explanations for this object

The painting once belonged to a handscroll depicting horses and grooms, and may have served as a collector’s item, or as a teaching tool for young warriors. The horseman is barefoot and devoid of a saddle, he clutches his knees against the stallion’s body, holding a whip in his right hand.
