The subject of ‘Su Shi riding a horse’ is most likely to refer to the poet’s exile to South China, where he borrowed a peasant’s straw hat and coat in the rain. With his long-torsoed figure and his two-tonal approach, Hidenobu follows the convention established by the Kanô school in the 16th century. |
